SUMMARY:MCH-Sunday Spirit Series: Bart Adrian-"Following God's Compass on My Journey"
DESCRIPTION:Our 2025 Sunday Spirit Series theme is Fueled by Faith: how faith directs our life choices. \n  \n  \n \nBart Adrian has been fascinated with the weather since his boyhood in the Chicago area. He majored in engineering science (applied mathematics) at Northwestern University and then came to Wisconsin where he completed his M.S. (1981) in meteorology at UW-Madison. \nIn Madison\, Bart became very interested in teaching and in youth ministry. After a one-year stint as a forecaster and occasional on-air meteorologist at WKOW-TV in Madison\, he came to Milwaukee in 1982\, joining the weather team at WITI-TV (FOX 6). His Milwaukee TV career lasted 28 years\, but teaching was never forgotten. During his years at FOX 6\, Bart taught meteorology to UW-Milwaukee undergraduates\, and to elementary school students in the UWM “College for Kids” program. He also worked on certification as a high school earth science and math teacher\, and gave literally hundreds of talks to elementary\, middle school and high school students. \nIn 1991 Bart was honored by the Archbishop of Milwaukee as the first ever recipient of a “Vatican II Award” for service in communication.  At the close of his TV career in 2010\, he was recognized with a Public Service Award by the National Weather Service. And in 2015 he was inducted into the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Silver Circle. \nCurrently Bart teaches meteorology and mathematics at UW-Milwaukee. He also works part-time as a contract weather observer for the FAA at Milwaukee’s airport and serves as President of the Greater Milwaukee Chapter of the American Meteorological Society. He remains involved in outreach programs for teenagers\, and loves to encourage the study of history\, science and mathematics. Above all\, Bart will tell you that his most important roles in life are those of husband (to his wife Terri) and father (to their four sons).

David Danzmayr – “extremely good\, concise\, clear\, incisive and expressive” (The Herald) – returns to conduct this program\, which concludes with Mendelssohn’s Third Symphony; just before beginning this stormy and songful symphony\, Mendelssohn wrote a letter from Edinburgh claiming\, “Everything around is broken and moldering\, and the bright sky shines in. I believe I found today in the old chapel the beginning of my Scottish Symphony.”. From his early years in the British Army to his leadership during World War II\, Churchill’s resilience\, eloquence\, and strategic mind helped shape the course of history. \nChurchill the Politician: Churchill joined the Conservative Party in 1901 but was distrusted by Conservatives because of his progressive politics. He soon realized that he had more in common with the Liberal Party and joined the Liberals in 1904. In World War I\, Churchill was appointed Lord of the Admiralty and served on the Imperial War Cabinet. He was blamed for the military debacle at the Battle of Gallipoli and was forced to resign from the British Government in disgrace. He was convinced that his political career was over.

He suffered from bouts of depression\, what he called “that black dog\,” but focused on writing and painting to help get him through the challenging time. Through it all\, he continued to believe that he was a man of destiny. In 1933\, Adolf Hitler and the Nazis came to power\, and Churchill believed firmly that World War II was now inevitable. He issued warning after warning regarding Nazi Germany\, but few listened.

He proved to be a superb wartime leader and believed that all the challenges that he had experienced in his life\, trained him for this one enormous task. Churchill led Britain to victory and its finest hour in the backdrop of the Second World War.

From his early years in the British Army to his leadership during World War II\, Churchill’s resilience\, eloquence\, and strategic mind helped shape the course of history. \nChurchill: Postwar and Legacy: Although he led Britain to victory in World War II in May of 1945\, he was voted out of office in July of 1945 as the British population believed the Labour Party represented a better future for the island nation. Churchill would return though as Prime Minister in 1951-55 and would also remain a member of Parliament well into the 1960s. Churchill died in 1965 at the age of 90. His foresight\, passion\, and belief in himself led him to become one of the greatest statesmen of the 20th Century.
