DESCRIPTION:Learn all about our amazing native pollinator plants\, their special characteristics and how to bring them to your yard. This event is open to anyone with an interest in learning more and will visit various restoration sites on the CEC and neighboring properties. Topics will include: \n\nWhy plant natives\nChoosing the right site and right plants\nHow to prep the site and When to plant\nUsing plants or seeds\n\nWe will visit various pollinator and butterfly gardens\, several acres of prairie converted from lawn and a new 15-acre pollinator prairie planted in a soybean field. \nThis workshop will be run by CEC’s executive director Joe Meyer. Joe has been involved in prairie planting and restoration for nearly 20 years. He has planted dozens of butterfly gardens for schools\, churches and private land owners\, as well as\, over 50 acres of land into native prairie. DESCRIPTION:Do you enjoy watching birds? Ever wondered if you could learn how to draw and paint them? This is your lucky chance!! Participants will learn how to see and draw from real life bird mounts. This gives the individual a better understanding of each bird’s makeup and gets to see all the details up close. Not to mention they stand still so we can draw and paint them! In these sessions\, participants will learn how to correctly see and render proportions of an individual bird\, capture the line of movement and learn how to identify several feather groupings. We will start by drafting rough drafts to capture the overall movement of the bird. Then we will transfer our image to fine quality paper where we will apply watercolor painting techniques. At the end of the session individuals will have gained an appreciation for seeing and have a work of art to be proud of. All skill levels are encouraged. Children should be accompanied by adults. This event does not have specific activity times.
