Clare Gardens
We believe there is a special connection to be had in understanding the source of your food. As a resident of one of our senior living communities you become part of our sustainable farm-to-table program. Clare Gardens, with its acres of vegetables, an orchard, beehives, hens and composting of food waste, is a food source for Milwaukee Catholic Home and Trinity Woods. Located in nearby Dodge County, the land provides more than 30,000 pounds of produce each year.
Clare Gardens also is a resource for our educational and social programming. The 18-acre area hosts experiences to expand our residents’ understanding of composting, no-till and organic farming practices and the effective use of cover crops to eliminate the need for pesticides, herbicides and synthetic fertilizers in food production.
The Clare Gardens program is a partnership with the Catholic Ecology Center. It is modeled after traditional Community Supported Agriculture farms, which offer consumers regular deliveries of locally grown farm products. Along with providing for our senior living communities, produce is available to the wider public through farm-to-table events and a seasonal farmstand at the Catholic Ecology Center.
