🍁 Join us for our Fall Getaway trip! 🍂
At Trinity Senior Services, we believe every season offers opportunities to live well—and summer is no exception. Whether you’re active outdoors or simply enjoying the sunshine on one of our patio spaces at Trinity Woods or Milwaukee Catholic Home, staying safe in the summer heat is essential. As part of our commitment to A Life Engaged®, we’re sharing a few simple ways to stay healthy, comfortable, and active all season long. These heat safety practices align with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to help reduce the risk of heat-related illness.

One of the easiest ways to stay well during the summer is to stay hydrated. As we age, our bodies may not signal thirst as readily, making it important to drink water consistently throughout the day. Fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables—like those grown at Clare Gardens and incorporated into many of our meals—also provide natural hydration while delivering essential nutrients.
When temperatures climb, spend as much time as possible in air-conditioned spaces. Close blinds or curtains during the hottest part of the day to keep your home cooler and use fans to improve air circulation. If your home doesn’t have air conditioning, consider visiting a local library, community center, or other public places where you can cool off.
Choose lightweight, loose-fitting clothing in light colors to help your body stay cool. A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen can provide additional protection if you’re spending time outdoors.
When possible, schedule gardening, walking, and other outdoor activities during the cooler morning or evening hours. If you need to be outside during periods of extreme heat, take frequent breaks in the shade, drink plenty of water, and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day—typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Pay attention to how you’re feeling during hot weather. Symptoms such as dizziness, headache, nausea, unusual fatigue, muscle cramps, confusion, or a rapid heartbeat may be signs that your body is becoming overheated. Move to a cool place, drink water, and seek medical attention if symptoms become severe or don’t improve.
Summer is a wonderful time to enjoy fresh air, sunshine, and meaningful moments with family and friends. It’s also a great reminder to check in on neighbors and loved ones—especially those who live alone. A quick phone call or visit can help ensure they stay safe and comfortable during periods of extreme heat.
With a few simple precautions and the support of a caring community, you can enjoy everything summer has to offer while staying healthy, active, and connected. At Trinity Senior Services, we’re proud to support healthy, engaged living every day of the year, helping residents embrace each season with confidence, comfort, and joy.
