Clare Gardens Corner: August 2025

This summer, Clare Gardens is delivering an abundance of farm-fresh produce to enhance senior care and culinary programs across our communities. As part of Trinity Senior Services, Clare Gardens plays a vital role in bringing locally grown, nutrient-rich vegetables directly to the dining rooms of our senior living residents—helping them enjoy flavorful, wholesome meals every day.

We also have an exciting update from one of our farmers, Clare Nickel, who shares:

“Clare Gardens and I share a namesake in Saint Clare of Assisi, an Italian saint whose feast day we honored on August 11th. To celebrate, I baked fresh zucchini bread using produce from our own fields—it was the perfect way to enjoy the harvest and reflect on the values of Saint Clare.”

Clare also writes:

Our CSA shares are fuller than ever, brimming with tomatoes, beets, carrots, zucchini, cucumbers, and beans. The high tunnels are flourishing, and our farm team works tirelessly to ensure each harvest meets the highest standards of quality and freshness. This commitment to excellence supports our culinary teams, who transform these fresh ingredients into delicious, health-conscious meals for those we serve.

The tomato plants are producing a record yield this year, and our green beans have become a crowd favorite in both our CSA program and senior dining menus. These fresh vegetables not only taste amazing but also support healthy aging—an essential part of senior care and overall wellness.

We’re already preparing for fall, with winter squash beginning to take shape and cool-weather crops taking root. But for now, summer is still in full swing, and our harvest season is far from over.

This month, we also welcomed special visitors to Clare Gardens! Big shoutout to our friends at CLA (CliftonLarsonAllen) and Plunkett Raysich Architects, LLP, who traded their desks for a day on the farm. From wood chopping to giving Larry the Pig’s shed quite the glow-up, this crew got things done. Their muscle, teamwork, and painting skills helped us keep Clare Gardens growing and glowing—and for that, we are deeply grateful. Volunteer days like these are a big part of how we maintain our farm, and they show just how much our community believes in our mission.
